Shamini Law, Chief Executive Officer

Shamini Law, a Malaysian, oversees all operational, financial and commercial aspects of the airline.

She is the CEO and Accountable Manager of flyGlobal and has led the start-up and implementation of the airline. She oversees all areas of the airline.

Shamini was previously seconded to a Kuala Lumpur-based global Umrah/Hajj charter operator as its Chief Operating Officer. She oversaw all operational, financial and commercial aspects of the airline. Having developed a recovery plan for the airline, which included the restructuring of existing debt and change of management team, Shamini was also responsible for successfully expanding the airline’s AOC to include A330s, and the sale and leaseback of two (2) B747-400 aircraft.

Shamini was previously seconded to Malaysia’s Raya Airways (formerly known as Transmile Air Services) as Chief Operating Officer, where she developed and successfully executed a business plan for the airline’s new owners. Once again she was responsible for all the operational, financial and commercial aspects of the airline and its MRO facility. Shamini’s aviation career has taken her across Asia, beginning at Malaysia’s AirAsia as its Treasurer, before joining a Hong Kong-based start-up as Head of Finance, and later as Chief Financial Officer of Indonesia’s Lion Air Group. She has always been responsible for fleet development and management, and has closed numerous big-ticket aircraft transactions.

In AirAsia, she arranged the financing of the airline’s first 33 A320-200 aircraft and related parts, amounting to over USD$1.5billion, using various debt instruments and ECA financing. In Lion Air, she dealt with the purchase, sale and financing of the airline’s B737-900/800 fleet. Arranging some USD$1.3billion in debt and lease deals. She also oversaw the operational readiness for the airline to induct a large fleet.

Prior to aviation, Shamini worked in the banking sector in the private equity and derivative trading businesses, where she gained her expertise in capital markets and derivative hedging. She has worked for Deutsche Bank, CLSA Capital, ABN Amro and Merrill Lynch. Shamini is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she read Accounting and Finance. She also holds a professional qualification in Law from the UK.

Izani Merican, Head of Engineering

Izani Merican brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. He is responsible for directing and coordinating all maintenance activities relating to the charter operator’s fleet, setting standards to ensure safe and reliable operations. Merican was previously Senior Vice President, Maintenance and Engineering at Eaglexpress Air Charter.

Before this he was Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director for Maintenance and Engineering at NASTECH in Saudi Arabia, between January 2013 and August 2015. He directed and coordinated the overall activities of the maintenance organization and maintained the flyNas fleet of 24 A320 aircraft, the RSAF fleet of BBJ, Hawker and Cessna and Ministry of Finance fleet of BBJ and Gulfstream aircraft. He was also the Accountable Manager.

Before this he was Deputy Technical Director at Indonesia’s Mandala Air from November 2008 to December 2012. There he monitored, implemented and ran engineering for its 10 A320 aircraft. Responsible for Schedule Planning, Maintenance Planning, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Technical Services, he also negotiated contracts with service providers and the aircraft manufacturer. From March 2007 to October 2008 he was with AirAsia Indonesia as its Engineering Advisor, advising on the MRO of its aircraft, power plants and components. Also ensuring necessary resources such as finance, facilities, tools and equipment, manpower and the managing of airworthiness data issued by the Aviation Authorities were available, and all requirements met.

From 2005 to 2007 he held the positions of Planning Manager and Maintenance Manager at AirAsia Malaysia. From 1983 to March 2005 he worked with MAS where he started as an Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer up to Engineering Coordinator, Duty Executive Engineer and later, Senior Projects Engineer.

Captain Mustapha Kamal bin Halim, Director of Flight Operations

Captain Kamal is responsible for organizing, staffing and directing all flight operations, cabin safety, crew scheduling and training programs. He is also responsible for dealing with all technical issues relating to fleet management, ensuring the highest standard of flying, and that the professionalism of the flight crew is maintained at all times.

He ensures compliance on technical matters, working with the regulatory bodies and ensures technical data verification of the approval process is complied with prior to operation.

Captain Kamal was born in Johor Baru and was educated in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur. He attended the Philippine Airlines Aviation School in June 1981 and graduated in September 1982 under the MAS Cadet Pilot program. Apart from flying for MAS for 22 years, he also flew for Etihad Airways for 13 years.

He has flown various types of aircraft, including the F27, B737-200/300/400/500, B747-200/300, B777-200/300 and B787-9/10.

Izudin Merican, Head of Commercial

Izudin joined in October 2018 as Head of Commercial. He is responsible for developing and implementing an innovative, growth-focused commercial strategy, focusing primarily on new product areas and emerging markets.

Izudin  has more than 30 years of experience in the Hospitality industry, including 21 years in senior management positions. Izudin has previously worked with the Shangri-La International group where he began his career in Food Beverage as a waiter and rose up the ladder as Restaurant and Bar Manager. He was the first recipient for Trainer Of The Year – Shangri-La Group, for his contributions in setting up the SOPs and training programs for the group.

As the Group General Manager for Swiss Garden International, he consolidated and standardized the Company’s regional operations, in order to facilitate future growth, drive higher service levels and promote the Company’s focus.

Prior to joining Swiss Garden International, Izudin was attached to the Marriott Group where he had held various key positions such as Director F&B, Director of Operations and General Manager.

Captain Asmie Ashkar, Head of Safety, Security & Quality

Captain Asmie is Head of Safety, Security & Quality overseeing the SMS aspect of the company. He has 25 years of aviation experience.

He began his career as a pilot in Malaysia Airlines, spending 24 years there. He has a grand total of 14,556 hours as a pilot and 11,968 hours as command. He also has 5,194 hours as command in the Boeing 777-200 fleet.

During his career at Malaysia Airlines, he also operated Hajj flights from KUL-JED-KUL and also KUL-MED-KUL from 2010 to 2015.

Shamsul Bin Idrus, Head of Operations & Control Centre

Shamsul  joined flyGlobal in August 2016 as Manager of Ground Operations. He is responsible for Ground Operations, contract management with ground handlers, purchasing of catering equipment, and also overseeing OCC administration.

He has 26 years experience in the aviation industry. He joined Malaysia Airlines as a customer service agent in 1991. He then continued his aviation career with Japan Airlines as a cargo officer in its Cargo Division.

Shamsul then joined AirAsia as a Cargo Executive where he was responsible for setting up its cargo department. He was then promoted to Manager of Customer Services based in KLIA. He went on to hold several positions including Ramp Manager and Ground Operations Manager and Manager of Cargo Operations, where his portfolio included customer services, ramp, reservations and cargo operations. He held the position of Cargo Operations Manager for five years. While at AirAsia in 2001, he was involved in handling Hajj Operations. After that he joined Raya Airways for two-and-a-half years as Senior Manager for Ground Operations, where he was responsible for all ground handling matters, such as warehouse, ramp and stations, before joining flyGlobal.

Abdul Fatah Ibrahim, Senior Manager, Maintenance

Abdul Fatah joined as Senior Maintenance Manager overseeing aircraft maintenance in July 2017.

He has 28 years aviation experience in aviation, including Malaysia Airlines, ST Aerospace Services Co Pte Ltd (SASCO), SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), Eaglexpress Air Charter and now, flyGlobal. He has held positions as Line Maintenance Superintendent, Materials Manager, Head of Commercial and Head of Maintenance.

He was managing annual Hajj Operations while working at Malaysia Airlines and his last role prior to joining flyGlobal was  at Eaglexpress Air Charter, where he was Head of Maintenance for Hajj and Umrah operations.

Ihsan Adli, Manager, Cabin Crew

Ihsan is flyGlobal’s Cabin Crew Manager. He manages crew recruitment as well as their training programs. He has extensive experience in crew management, especially for Hajj and Umrah operations.

Ihsan was Malaysia Airlines cabin crew from 1996-2006. He joined Eaglexpress as cabin crew from 2014-2016. He had the privilege to serve Bangladeshi pilgrims during Eaglexpress Charter’s Hajj and Umrah operations, under the Saudia call sign, in 2014 and 2015.
